Greetings from the Gallery. March will be a busy month for The Gallery. We have a special treat for Glendive. Our Artist of the Month is Ruth Radebaugh from Dickinson, North Dakota with a showing of her Ukrainian pysanke eggs. A pysanka (plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated using beeswax and dyes. Pysanka is often taken to mean any type of decorated egg, but it specifically refers to an egg created by the written-wax method and utilizing traditional folk motifs and designs. In 2004, Ukrainian American Ruth Olienyk Radebaugh of Belfield, N.D., was selected by the American Egg Board to design an egg to represent the state of North Dakota. All states submitted a decorated egg for the White House exhibit that was staged in the nation’s capital in April, 2004. The egg was designed specifically with the then First Lady, Laura Bush, in mind for it became part of the White House collection. Ruth’s open house will be March 12th from 5:00-7:00. The next day, Saturday, March 13th, she will teach a class on writing pysanky. All levels of interest from beginners to those familiar are welcome to join!

The Gallery is happy to host “Intro to Art Marketing” by Pamela Harr. Pamela’s focus will be low-tech and will address copyrights, dealing with galleries and dealers and basic record keeping. These classes are perfect for those thinking about selling their art, those who need a refresher and for those who just need advice. Pam is offering 2 opportunities to participate in this class with the first on March 17th from 6:00-8:00 p.m again on March 20th from 10:00- 12:00 . Pam’s classes will be held at the Gallery with limited seating.

The Gallery is also pleased to announce the 42nd Juried Exhibition “Unbridled Happiness”. This traveling show will visit Glendive and The Gallery, opening March 22 and will stay with us until April 23rd. The works have traveled near and far and artists in this years juried show come from all over the United States as well as Big Sky Country. Our local artists include Lorna Days, Staci Ketchum, Catherine Kimball, Vida Landa, Linda Parks, Sharon Smith, Stan Wheeler, Bob Zdow and Carolyn Zimmeramn. Also from Montana we have Saron Borla, Forsyth, Gavin Herzog, Bozeman, Pam Little, Hamilton, Kate Settle-Ruland, Broadus and Sheryl Silberman, Missoula. Our next general meeting is March 1st at 7:15 p.m. The Gallery is always looking for volunteers who are interested in supporting local artists (you don’t have to be ‘artsy’ yourself, just appreciate it!) Thank you for your support.
